. A loyal family dog made the headlines in China after she went on a tireless journey to try and find her home. Jianghai Evening News reported that the one-year-old Golden Retriever called Ping An spent two weeks walking over 100 kilometers (about 62 miles). Fortunately, kind strangers spotted the weary canine and decided to help her out.
House renovations and a temporary move
According to the state-owned newspaper, Ping An’s family, who lives in Qidong City, was busy with house renovations back in June. With no time for Ping An, they asked a friend to look after the pup temporarily. They then drove for two hours to drop off the dog at their friend’s house in Nantong City, over 100 kilometers away.
The family did not anticipate how much Ping An would miss them. Almost four months later, the owners were devastated to find out that their much-loved pooch had run away from their friend’s home. What they didn’t know was that their loyal dog went on a grueling solo quest to find her way back home.
Relying only on her memory of the car ride and that radar that animals seem to have, Ping An set out. She tirelessly trekked over 100 kilometers (about 60 miles) from Nantong to Qidong for 14 days. On November 2nd, a group of workers spotted the limping and emaciated canine outside their office building. Ping An had a small injury on her paws and blood on her toes.
According to the rescuers, Ping An looked quite depressed. It’s hard to tell whether this was because she could not find her family, or from exhaustion from her long trek. The kind-hearted strangers decided to look after the dog and help track down her owners. Everyone mobilized, and they forwarded pictures and news about Ping An on the popular Chinese messenger app called WeChat.
A happy reunion for Ping An
At noon that day, Ping An’s owners saw the social posts and recognized their pet dog from the pictures. The whole family rushed to the company’s site and presented the dog certificate to pick her up. A heart-warming video showed the canine finally reuniting with her family after four months.
The family hugged and stroked their pet and repeatedly praised her for being smart and loyal. They assured Ping An that they would never send her away anymore. After a visit to the vet, the dog owners updated everyone. Ping An was fine and recovering from her injuries. In this short YouTube video, Ping An shows how content she is to be home.
