Life is a little bit challenging for parents, especially when their kids start to have families. Being left alone can be lonely, and finding a companion can a daunting task. It is probably why most older people tend to get a dog with whom they can share the prime of their lives. Some don’t even need to look because chances are, one can find a homeless or lost dog in busy streets and food strips.

Meeting the right dog

Watch how an old man finds a dog whom he thinks was abandoned. Later on, he learns that it was lost and its owners were looking for it.  Then feel the bittersweet emotion when its owners eventually locate the dog, which means that the old man has to give his dog bacl to its original owners. The good thing is that the dog had become so loyal to him already that when he came to visit, it immediately welcomed him.

Chobo, the dog with two owners

One day, a little dog was searching for food in the trash when an old man walked by. He saw the starving dog, and tried to get its attention. He noticed that the dog was friendly, so he decided to bring it home for a quick bath, but he liked the dog so much that he adopted it right there and then. From then on, he assumed ownership of the adorable dog, even buying him a dog collar as a tangible sign.

Fast forward, though, to one morning, just before Christmas.  They strolled down the streets and passed by a post with a poster of a missing dog. This dog was named Chobo, and upon close inspection, that dog was the old man’s dog.

The old man recognized his dog in the poster.

While it is undeniable that the old man loved the dog, he decided to do the right thing. He contacted the true owner of the dog. The family of the little girl who is the owner of Chobo came the next morning.  They invited the old man to celebrate Christmas Eve with them, and he accepted. When he arrived, his dog immediately ran towards him happily. Chobo had not forgotten him, and he had gained new friends.

Located in Maine, we are dog lovers, and have had several breeds to learn from. And they do teach us, if we listen! A wolf hybrid taught us about the value of positive reinforcement and building trust; a Fox Terrier taught us about the necessity of basic commands off-leash; a Sheltie taught us about how to keep a working dog engaged and happy; and a Border Collie taught us that even a severely handicapped dog can bring joy into your life.
