What Happens When A Terrified Dog Bites Her Rescuer?

A tiny abandoned dog spied in the distance

As a family was taking pictures of themselves on the bridge, they spotted a tiny pup trying to hide from the warm sun. Because of her behavior, they immediately alerted a rescue organization in the area. The dog was so tiny yet so ferocious that it was hard to get near her.

As told by the rescuers, they finally found her, but it took a while.  The pup, though, didn’t know quite what to make of them. She tried to hide, backing into a corner as they tried to coax her to them.  The tiny dog was having none of it.

It was obvious she didn’t trust humans. She was afraid and she was barking and growling. She was so scared, she tried to run away. Eventually Maggie, as they named her later, got tired but every time they got close, she would growl and snap at them. She was such a tiny dog that she could almost fit into a coffee cup. In fact, an empty cup was the only thing that was found in her area–no food, no water, just an empty cup.

After some time, the rescuers finally caught her.  At that point, they were able to pick her up and bring her to the car. As expected with an animal that felt trapped, she did what she could to protect herself, including fighting her rescuer and biting hard enough to draw blood.

The tiny being was clearly starving, so the rescuer opened the can of food which he had brought.  Carefully he fed it to her in the front seat of the car and brought her home.

Maggie is rescued

The SPCA, always a cautious organization, didn’t want to take her, especially after they thought she had bitten the rescuer versus scratched him.  Yet, once Maggie was safe, she turned out to be a total love bug.  She’s thankful for the food, the water, and a safe place to lay her head. She will visited the vet soon after the got her home, but it was clear shet needed a safe place to regain her trust in people, after being simply abandoned by them.

In a short time, she learned to adjust, taking her time sniffing and getting relaxed in her rescuer’s home.  Once she was in a crate with some food and water and a nice soft bed, she definitely enjoyed it. Within 24 hours away from the outside elements she couldn’t be any sweeter.
